MWC 2017: Moto G5 and G5 Plus announced along with upcoming Alexa Moto Mod

Lenovo today at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2017 (MWC) announced that its Moto Mods are still alive and kicking and even showcased a rather unusual Alexa Moto Mod as well. The indeed focus was Moto G5 and the G5 Plus.

Moto G 5th generation will be available globally from March. The Moto G5 will be priced at Euro 199 (roughly Rs 14,000) and the Moto G5 plus at Euro 279 (roughly Rs 19,000).

The design of the Moto G has now moved on from a plasticy past to a metal clad present. Yes, the new G5 looks premium on the outside with an all metal finish. The build however, is not completely metal.

The Moto G5 features a 5-inch Full HD LCD display while the bigger Moto G5 Plus has a bigger 5.2-inch Full HD LCD display.

Inside, you get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset inside the Moto G5 while the bigger G5 Plus gets a 625 that is known for delivering great battery life.

The Moto G5 is available with 2GB/4GB RAM in 16GB or 32GB flavours with microSD card support for cards of up to 128GB. The Moto G5 Plus also available with 4GB RAM gets an upgrade here with the base storage at 32GB and the second option being a 64GB model. Both comes with expandable storage.

The camera department is mostly the same with a 13MP f/2.0 unit with PDAF on the back and 5MP unit on the front. The G5 Plus gets a slightly better 12MP f/1.7 aperature unit with dual focus pixels.The G5 can record Full HD video while the Plus gets 4K recording.

Connectivity options include NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and dual SIM slots.The Moto G5 gets a a removable 2,800mAh battery while the G5 Plus model gets a sealed 3,000mAh battery.

The software bits include Android 7.0 Nougat with the usual Moto customisations along with integrated Google Assistant when they arrive in March.

Moto Mods

Lenovo focused its announcement more on its Moto Mods explaining how owners of the Moto Z series often end up buying more than one mod and how the JBL speaker is on average used for 14 hours per week.

There is a new battery Mod coming soon that brings 50 percent more battery life and uses a smart charging mechanism for quick charging. The company also showcased a new charging adapter. Also introduced was a Moto Mod for wireless charging. As expected, it features a glass design and coupled with a turbo charger will give you enough juice to get through a day in just 15 minutes.

Lastly, there was also a new Gamepad. The mod fits on to the back and and apart from functioning as a controller also adds some storage and four speakers.

Moto Lenovo Amazon alexa

Indeed, Amazon’s Alexa was the highlight. Lenovo wowed the audience with a new Mod that was built in collaboration with Amazon. The mod basically lets you speak voice commands either through your Moto Z, giving it a display to show results or by itself will function like an echo speaker. Motorola said that going forward we should expect deeper Alexa integration into Moto smartphones.
