OnePlus teases black variant of 3T, releases update for OnePlus 2 and ‘MP Early Access Program’ for testing

OnePlus has teased the black variant of 3T on its official Twitter account giving us hope that the company will launch a black variant of its flagship OnePlus 3T. This Tweet came hours after OnePlus launched a limited edition OnePlus 3T Black in partnership with popular concept store Colette. The launch celebrated the 20th anniversary of Colette where OnePlus hosted a pop-up shop at the Colette store in Paris on 21 March 2017.

The official Twitter account of OnePlus India tweeted the same image while counting down 10 hours around 11AM in the morning. That would put the launch of this new colour variant at around 9PM night. The smartphone will be exactly similar to normal OnePlus 3T smartphones in terms of specifications with the only difference being the black colour.

The company initially announced that it will only put 250 units of the Black OnePlus 3T but may have kept this a testing ground for eventual rollout for the black variant. It is unclear if the Colette branding will make its way back but it will be highly unlikely.

The company also released an update for OnePlus 2 users after a long wait. One thing to note is that the company still did not launch Android Nougat 7.0 for OnePlus 2 users. Instead, this update is same old Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 along with a few bug fixes. The new version of OxygenOS stands at 3.5.8 with Nougat still in the pipeline. You can check the detailed changelog below:

  • Updated Google security patch to 1st March 2017
  • Fixed echo issue during video calls in Duo App
  • Fixed persistent network drop issues
  • Fixed data roaming issue in certain countries
  • Improved audio compatibility
  • General bug fixes

As usual, the update will rollout in an incremental manner and itcould take a while before your OnePlus 2 gets the update.

Last but not the least, OnePlus has announced a new “MP Early Access Program“, the fourth OxygenOS testing stage. This new stage is to ensure that no last minute bugs creep up in the final OTA while releasing the update. This will improve the quality of the software before it is released to general users. The people under MP Early Access Program will get early access to the final OTA updates. This will limit any serious bugs to the limited group of people so that the company can fix it.
