Apple iPhone 8 availability to be delayed due to 3D sensor and OLED display shortage

There’s plenty of mystery surrounding Apple’s upcoming smartphone hit, the iPhone 8. Yes, its the iPhone 8 (or iPhone X) that is expected to be Apple’s flagship smartphone at its September launch this year, and not the usual and expected iPhone 7s and 7s Plus models.

The exotic iPhone 8 with a 5.8-inch display however, will not arrive in markets on time but will be delayed by a few months until the holiday season.

According to Drexel Hamilton analyst Brian White, who sent out a note to investors on Friday explaining that Apple’s 5.8-inch iPhone won’t arrive along with the rest in September.

As told to CNBC, White hinted citing contacts that Apple will offer its 3D sensing technology and OLED displays only with the 5.8-inch iPhone 8. But according to the same contact, the model will be delayed by several weeks because of the challenges related to the technology.

The same sensors will be vital to the augmented reality technology (AR) that Apple is expected to showcase with iPhone 8.

However, it’s bad news all the way as fans and customers will still be able to pre-order the 5.8-inch model along with the standard 4.7-inch unit and the 5.5-inch unit in September. But these will again not have the fancy new features, so it is pretty clear that many may actually have to pre-order and wait until the holidays arrive.

At the same time, it is kind of a confusing situation as the price of the iPhone 8 is supposed to be pretty high thanks to all the exotic tech that’s packed into it.
