Apple refreshes its Mac Pro lineup with faster hardware

Apple seems to have silently upgraded the Mac Pro lineup. The new updated models come after the the sleek cylindrical version were first announced three years ago. The base model has been updated and is now priced at $2,999 in the US for the 6-core version. The new model now includes a 3.5 GHz 6-core Intel Xeon E5 processor with dual AMD FirePro D500 GPUs and 16 GB of RAM. In India the pricing however remains at Rs 2,49,900.

There is a second model which features a 3.0 GHz 8-core Intel Xeon E5 processor, Dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs and 16 GB of RAM. This is priced at Rs 3,29,900 and $3,999 in the US.

Both the models can be configured with 32GB or even 64GB of RAM.  As for storage, both models support up to 256GB and are configurable to 512GB or 1TB. Rest of the features remain the same including 4 USB 3 ports, 6 Thunderbolt 2 ports, Dual Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI 1.4 UltraHD ports, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0. The size and dimensions remain the same.

Apple said in a press release:

With regards to the Mac Pro, we are in the process of what we call “completely rethinking the Mac Pro.” We’re working on it. We have a team working hard on it right now, and we want to architect it so that we can keep it fresh with regular improvements, and we’re committed to making it our highest-end, high-throughput desktop system, designed for our demanding pro customers. 

Apple recently announced a new 9.7-inch iPad and new red coloured variants of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus as a part of (Product) Red series.
