Google Pixel 2 XL gets codenamed ‘Muskie’ on Google AOSP

While Google’s Pixel smartphones were a success, they did come with a few issues. But its now 2017 and everyone’s eyes are on the next version of the Pixel, that the rumour mill has tagged as the Pixel 2.

Until now, there was only news about two pixel smartphones arriving in 2017, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. While the Pixel 2 got the codename ‘Walleye’, we now know that Pixel 2 XL is called ‘Muskie’ internally. However, the same listing also points to a third option called ‘Tiamen’, which is expected to be a phablet-sized option or a new Pixel tablet model.

The new name was discovered by Android Police. The same was found at Google AOSP, which also revealed (and made official) all three new codenames.

For now, the information about these devices is very little. In fact, one could just limit confirmed details to their respective names.

Other than this, we can expect the new models to be dust and waterproof along with new and updated hardware in the form of the Snapdragon 835. Then again, an older 9to5Google report also shed light on Google’s custom chipsets.

The last we heard about the upcoming Google Pixel smartphones, was when some new renders of the Google Pixel 2 appeared on Chinese news portal Anzhuo. The images showcased a smartphone that featured a slim construction with flat sides and bevelled edges and rounded corners, with the back and front made of glass.
