YouTube puts a limit of 10,000 views to display ads on any channel, in response to boycott by UK and US brands

YouTube has announced that it will no longer serve ads on YouTube channels that have less that 10,000-lifetime views. This means that YouTubers who are just starting off will not immediately be able to earn money from YouTubes Ad revenue stream and will need to achieve this target to be able to monetise their videos with the help of the ads.

This limit is in response to a massive controversy that has been developing on YouTube in past few weeks and this was endangering the source of revenue for YouTube creators while hurting the platform as a whole.

Major brands including Walmart, Pepsi, Coca-Cola and others have pulled out their advertisements from the platform after YouTube’s algorithm displayed ads against videos that were racially insensitive and featured objectionable content as reported by TechCrunch.

The YouTube management faced a severe backlash from companies and public, enough for Google to apologise for the mistake.

This limit is the first step in a long process to refine its advertisement and monetisation process from YouTube. YouTube detailed that 10,000 views will give it enough data to check if the channel that wants to enroll in for advertisements is valid with acceptable content. This will also protect the original content creators whose videos and copied and then reuploaded by fake channels.

In order to be increasingly advertiser-friendly platform, YouTube also announced that it will start a review process for the channels who meet this requirement and want to enroll in the YouTube Partner Program. The company will review the channel and if the channel passes YouTube policies, the company will enroll the channel in YPP and start serving advertisements as reported by The Verge.
