Facebook will now let you add your country’s flag to your Profile Frame

Facebook has updated the Profile Frames feature to include around 200 national flags that you can pin to the corner of your profile window.

Profile Frames was originally introduced to let users show their support for their favourite sports teams. Later on, it was updated to let users submit their own frames. Now you can mark your own country.

TechCrunch seems to believe that this move is at odds with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s views on creating an informed global community. But, as The Verge points out, Facebook is also about “creating and crafting your own identity.” And honestly, isn’t unity in diversity the new mantra, especially in a Donald Trump era?

Earlier this month, Zuckerberg published a 6,000 word manifesto where he acknowledged Facebook’s responsibility, as a 1.6 billion strong social network, towards the world. He outlined his vision of bringing communities together by getting people with common interests to actually know each other.

Zuckerberg wants to bring the fractured and isolated communities that make up Facebook into a more cooperative global community and improve discourse.
