Xiaomi could announce the Mi Max 2 with 6GB RAM and Snapdragon 660 in May

Xiaomi launched its large 6.4-inch Mi Max phablet last year for consumers looking at a large multimedia experience on a device that could (almost) fit into a pocket. This year we might see Xiaomi updating the device and showcasing it in May.

Early leaks around the follow-up device have emerged which suggests that the Mi Max 2 will be an incremental update of the original. It is said to sport the same 6.44-inch display the original had but the inside could see some changes.

Xiaomi could bring in a Snapdragon 660 processor which will be a bump up from the Snapdragon 650. The rest of the rumored specs include 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a big, 5,000mAh battery to power the device. It is also expected to run the latest MIUI version running on Android 7.0 Nougat.

Details are scant, but considering that Xiaomi is skipping MWC this year, it is clear that the Chinese company could be planning to launch some devices by the end of Q1 and beginning of Q2. Xiaomi recently launched the Snapdragon version of the Redmi Note 4 and the Redmi Note 4X with a limited edition Teal Green ‘Hatsune Miku’ edition, both of which are said to be selling well. Just today, the availability of the Matte Black variant of the Redmi Note 4 for the Indian market was confirmed.
