Using IBM’s Watson, Twitter wants to identify and halt abuse before it starts

In what may appear to be the idea behind the movie ‘Minority Report‘ starring actor Tom Cruise, Twitter has tied up with IBM Watson to police bullies who tweet and stop this abusive behaviour before it starts. A sort of pre-cog department of Twitter.

The same was announced by Twitter VP of data strategy Chris Moody at a keynote at IBM’s InterConnect conference. Moody agreed that there has been abuse on the Twitter platform and that it was the network’s number one priority.

The same was visible on the company’s official blog, from a recent blog post where the company explained in details a couple of updates to the platform.

Moody explained that Twitter had partnered with IBM’s Watson, a technology that is already good at understanding nuances in language and intention. The company’s goal with this partnership is to identify abuse patterns early and stop the behaviour before it starts, reported GeekWire.

Twitter Inc is considering whether to build a premium version of its popular Tweetdeck interface aimed at professionals, the company said on Thursday, raising the possibility that it could collect subscription fees from some users for the first time.

Last month it reported it had 319 million users worldwide.
