Google Play Music subscription service launched at Rs 89 per month inaugural price

Google has launched the subscription service for its Google Play Music to let you stream music and radio stations based on your favourite genres and interest areas.

The subscription service is currently available at a discounted price of Rs 89 per month, if users sign up for the first 45 days. It will be available on Android, iOS as well as on the web. The post-discount charges have not been announced just yet.

Google Play Music launched in India in September 2016. But till now, users could only buy latest music tracks and albums legally while supporting the artists behind the music. Now you can subscribe to Google Play Music, thereby having an extra choice over Saavn, Gaana (Rs 99 per month) and Apple Music (Rs 120 per month).

According to Google Play Music, it has a catalogue of 40mn unique local and international tracks. Play Music offers a range of music with the main screen segregating the music collection into different sections. The main screen offers sections like Top Songs, New Releases, Top Albums, Best of Bollywood, Devotional & Spiritual, Indian Pop Hits, Recommended for You, International Music, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi Pop, Ghazals & Sufi, Indian Classical and For the Kids. You can also watch videos of some artists within the app.

According to Google, it will be using machine learning to recommend music based on the preferences of the listener, activity and location. This will be done alongside the hand picked curations and playlists.

“With Google Play Music subscription, Indian subscribers can listen to their favourite music across a variety of languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil and more. This music can be accessed from any device using your Google account,” said Ellis Roman, lead product manager, Google Play Music.
