DJI introduces Matrice 200 drones for enterprise customers

DJI, one of the leading unmanned aerial vehicle companies in the world introduced its Matrice 200 drones, aimed at enterprise customers to perform aerial inspections and collect information. For the first time, DJI has included an upward facing gimbal in the drone, which could allow for the inspection of the underside of structures such as towers and bridges. The drone is compatible with a number of DJI cameras, including the X4S, the X5S, the Z30 zoom camera and the XT camera for thermal imaging.

Paul Guo, Director Enterprise Solutions at DJI said, “Drones have quickly become a standard part of the enterprise toolkit and industrial users have come to rely on DJI technology to efficiently collect aerial data. With the M200 series, DJI introduces a holistic solution designed specifically for these users.”

The Matrice 200 series has been envisioned and designed for a number of industrial applications. The drones are sturdy with an easy to set up folding body. The drones are resistant to weather and water, and are so suited for outdoor operations in demanding field conditions. There are automatic sensors to prevent collisions on the sides, top and bottom of the drones. An on board ADS-B receiver can collect advisory information from manned aircraft in the vicinity. The drones can fly for up to thirty five minutes on a single charge.

The drones have a number of intelligent flight features, autonomous drones where the behavior of the drones can be set. The Spotlight mode locks the camera on to a subject while the drone moves freely. The Point of Interest mode makes the drone fly around a subject in smooth orbits. The Tripod mode allows for fine tuning of the position and angle of the drone for safe flight in narrow corridors. Finally, the ActiveTrack mode allows the drone to follow an object or person.

The drones can be used to monitor construction sites and evaluate progress as well as use of resources. Engineers can safely find faults in infrastructure projects such as telecommunication towers, electricity networks and bridges, without exposing themselves to hazards of falling. The drones can also be used in search and rescue missions, by using a thermal imaging camera to find stuck or lost people. Firefighters can use the drones to assess the extent of a fire without going too close to it.
